As forecast earlier, the Labour Council closed Animal World from Sunday 29th September.
There was an attempt to close it several years ago, but the popular attraction was kept going, mainly due to the efforts of a dedicated team of volunteers.
Closing it will save about £80,000 a year – forced, the Council claims, by Government funding reductions. However, which cuts are made is decided entirely by the Labour Council, and many believe that the Council is too often playing politics..
We recently proposed a way of making savings of around £300,000 a year – that could have allowed Animal World to remain open. Our idea was ‘inconvenient’ for Labour, so it was voted down. It is sad that Animal World should fall victim to politics!
