At the meeting of Bolton Council on 20th February, Labour increased Council Tax by an above inflation 3.5%. Funny how this always seems to happen in a year when there are no local elections, but when there are elections we get a low increase or a freeze!

Labour is trying to pretend that the increase is only 1.2%, and that the extra is due to charges by Fire, Police, Transport and Waste. What they do not mention is that Labour controls Fire, Transport and Waste through the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) which the Leader of Bolton Council (Cliff Morris) sits on, and that the Police are controlled by a Labour Police Commissioner!

The Coalition Government had offered money to allow Council Tax to be frozen again; Labour decided not to accept it but to put up Council Tax instead.

Liberal Democrats voted against the Labour Budget.
