A planning application to extend the Heaton Medical Centre in Lucy Street will be considered by the Council’s Planning Committee on 10th December. I asked for it to come to Committee rather than be decided by Council Officers. I also asked for a site visit by the Committee before a decision is taken.

A number of residents have objected. Reasons include the extension being too close to their property and parking problems. The applicants claim that the extension will be built on an under utilised part of the car park. However, my experience is that the car park is nearly always full (see picture) – this can only be made worse by removal of some parking spaces, employment of three extra doctors and more patients.
